The biggest deals, explained

Quenton Nelson to Seattle (Oct. 27)

The biggest trade so far. Nelson has made the Pro Bowl in all eight of his NFL seasons, and the Seahawks got him for a third- and a fifth-round pick because his contract ends this season. Seattle (4-3) needed help on the interior offensive line. Indianapolis (2-5) is rebuilding after firing GM Chris Ballard. Full story and trade grades.

Marvin Harrison Jr. to Houston (Oct. 11)

The Cardinals moved the former No. 4 overall pick for a second-round pick, a big price drop for a young receiver who was supposed to be a star in Arizona. Houston gets a talented target in the hope of saving its season.

J.J. McCarthy to the Giants (Sept. 28)

A low-cost gamble that has already paid off once: McCarthy won his first start for New York, 27-21 in overtime at Houston in Week 7.

Who could be traded next?

These are rumors and reports, not done deals:

  • Colts: After the Nelson trade, ESPN reports that Indianapolis could keep selling. Running back Jonathan Taylor and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (32, contract ending) have been named as possible candidates. The Colts have not said they will trade Taylor.
  • Teams that wanted Nelson: ESPN reported that Green Bay, Chicago and Philadelphia showed interest in Nelson before he went to Seattle. They could look for other offensive line help.
