The NBA’s midseason party is heading to the desert. NBA All-Star 2027 takes place Friday, Feb. 19 to Sunday, Feb. 21, 2027, in Phoenix, home of the Suns, and it will air on NBC and Peacock.

What happens on All-Star weekend?
All-Star weekend usually has three big nights:
- Friday: The Rising Stars event for first- and second-year players, plus celebrity events.
- Saturday: All-Star Saturday Night, with the Skills Challenge, the 3-Point Contest and the Slam Dunk Contest.
- Sunday: The All-Star Game itself.
The NBA will confirm the exact events and times closer to February.
What will the format be?
For the 2026 All-Star Game, the NBA switched to a U.S. vs. the World format: three teams of eight players (two teams of American players and one team of international players) playing a round-robin mini-tournament.
The league hadn’t confirmed the 2027 format when this article was published. We’ll update this section when it does. Given how many of the NBA’s biggest stars are international (Nikola Jokić, Victor Wembanyama, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Dončić and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander among them), a U.S. vs. World game would again be stacked on both sides.
How are All-Stars chosen?
The usual process:
- Starters: Chosen by a mix of fan votes, player votes and a media panel. Fan voting normally opens in December and runs into January.
- Reserves: Chosen by the league’s head coaches.
- Injury replacements: Picked by the NBA commissioner.
To be eligible for most end-of-season awards, players need to play 65 games, but there is no games-played minimum for All-Star selection.
Why Phoenix?
Phoenix last hosted All-Star weekend in 2009, when Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant shared the All-Star Game MVP award. The Suns’ downtown arena has since been fully renovated.
